If using rechargeables, and they're more than a year old, consider purchasing new rechargeable batteries as they may not be providing sufficient power to startup the camera. After reading this website i tried the twist method and found it worked!!!! Thus make sure you try them in the listed order. I have a Canon PowerShot A560 and I dropped it while I was taking a picture and it turned off. It wouldn't make any noises or anything when I turned it on; I just got the lens error.

I was getting ready to ship it off to some repair center when i found this site. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Use very little of this.
