It turns itself off after about 10 seconds, lens still extended.Since I can't access the menu, I can't do a factory reset. After trying the other suggestions on my Canon Powershot A570 IS I tried #7 by grabbing the lens during power on and not allowing it to retract. Realizing the camera was out of warranty, and the cost of repair would equal or exceed the price of the camera, I tried a desperation move. Number 4 half worked for me, it would allow it to come on and take photos, but it would still make horrible clanky noises and it can't focus...

Send it to Canon for warranty service. I have a Casio Exilim EX-z77 and I brought it with me to the beach this weekend. Camera fixed!
