I found bits of foreign material inside the lens assembly, and jammed in between the gear teeth. Fix #6a: This is a variation of Fix #6, and should be tried if the lens barrels appears straight (not crooked).

If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. see here Next fire up a 5 volt power supply and attach some crocodile leads with small wires attached to the other side (I used the cut off legs from some resistors).
